webquest



What is WebQuest?


Webquest is quiet unfamiliar. That is why I have no idea what is it all about the first time I hear this word. Although, webquest is a compound noun consisting two words that are very familiar to me: the web and the quest. These two word give me hints to create an idea about this matter. I define these two words in order understand its real meaning.

Web is being defined as a system of internet servers that supports hypertext to access several interface protocol on a single interface.

Quest, on the other hand, is an act or an instance of seeking truth, information or knowledge about something.

Web quest, then, is a process of learning through the help of internet which allows students to gain new knowledge, new information and new content of a certain activity or topic given by the teacher.

According to www.en.wikipedia.org, a WebQuest , is a learning activity used by educators. During this activity learners read, analyze, and synthesize information using the World Wide Web. Webquests were invented by Bernie Dodge and Tom March at San Diego State University in 1995. It is an inquiry-oriented activity in which some or all of the the information that the learners interact with comes from the internet. It facilitates the transformation of the information into a newly constructed, assimilated understanding.

"Webquests use a central question that honestly needs answering. When students are asked to understand, hypothesize or problem-solve an issue that confronts the real world, they face an authentic task, not something that only carries meaning in a school classroom."

The facts stated above are the definition of webquest. It helps me to know what webquest is. But, the questions now are: “How will it help teachers and student in learning?”. “Is it applicable in our country?”

First and for most, webquest develops students cognitive skills. It enhances their thinking skills of the students through its HOTS questions. Students analyzes task in their own effort. It is because individual learning is present in this classroom setting. They learn things in their own pace and it helps them in their learning process. Webquest is very beneficial to all types of learners in the sense that they read, analyze, solve and reflect the task they have. It provides the learners many opportunities to apply their new knowledge through hands-on or other collaborative activities. Its integrated lessons guide the student on how to build knowledge and on how to think critically.

Webquest also helps the teachers to provide activities which are applicable to all learners. The teachers can now facilitate the students learning. Through webquest, teachers exert lesser time and effort because webquest already contains complete instruction that guides the students to fulfill task. It can provide reliable sources that students in which students can refer to if they have some difficulties, doubts and questions.


Webquest is applicable in some part of our country excluding the remote areas. It is because it is necessary to have an internet access before we can implement webquest as a source of learning instruction. Considering the fact that rural areas, or shall I say far-flung areas are not yet connected with the internet. It can be employed, however, in the city. Lucky are the students who are well-oriented of the fast-changing technology. Thus, webquest can meet their needs as students. Webquest can help many Filipino students to become better in the sense that their thinking skills are being developed. They can think at higher level which can help them to become proiductive and competivite not only in local but also in the whole world.

MY EXAM



Idiomatic Expression


Idiomatic expression is very important in the filed of English. It is necessary to become a successful native-like speaker of the second language. It is because it makes our speech and written outputs more colorful and more interesting. It is far more important especially if we are aiming to become a good speaker and a good writer.

Students, however, have difficulties in understanding the meaning of many English idiomatic expressions. This is one of the reasons why plenty of second language learners take time and efforts in learning and understanding the language.

In order to become a successful second language learner and speaker, it is, therefore, essential to study more on idiomatic expressions. The following softwares help us to do it with no difficulties.


Drill and Practice Software

Drill and practice software, by definition, is used to let the students master skills knowledge at their own pace under the assumption that the initial skill has already been taught before, usually in regular classroom lessons. The computer presents repetitive exercise that allows students to practice their basic skills or knowledge in a variety of subject areas.

The drill and practice regarding my chosen topic which is idiomatic expressions tests the students existing knowledge during their class discussions. It practices the students’ ability on how far they have learned out of the topic from their classroom meetings. The drill measures the learning of the students.


By the means of this software, students are tasked to answer the idiomatic expression drill and practice with enough time given by the teacher. Later, the teacher gives feedbacks as regards with the students’ answers. The feedbacks tell whether the students’ performance is better or needs improvement.

The drill and practice software, in general, shapes the students behavior towards learning. It conditions the students’ behavior on how they are going to response to the teachers given stimuli.

Tutorial Software

Tutorial software, based on the reference, is used to enable the students to learn to the topic at their own pace, usually without any help or other materials other than the software. It intends to teach the new content to the learners.

The idiomatic expression tutorial software that I have selected enhances the students cognitive skills through presenting systematic thought and ideas. Their thinking skills also become more developed because they absorb and understand the new content presented by the software. They learn idiomatic expressions with the help of this software alone. They gain knowledge of both new content and new information about the topic.

Thus, this software sharpens the students’ mental capacity and boosts their way of thinking. It allows individualized learning which is a big help to all types of learners in the sense that they are the one who manages their learning.
